Walter David Jones (known as David Jones) was a painter a British modernist poet.  He painted in watercolour – portraits and animals, landscape, legendary and religious subjects.  He was also a wood engraver and designed inscriptions.  T.S. Eliot considered him to be of major significance as a writer.  His “Anathemata” was viewed by W. H. Auden to be the best long poem written in English in the twentieth century.  His Welsh heritage and Christian beliefs helped to create and inform his literary and artistic achievements...
