Edward Ardizzone was born in French Indo-China, arriving in England in 1905.  He was a  painter, print-maker and war artist.  He also wrote and beautifully illustrated a number of children’s books.  He was brought up in Suffolk and lived in Ipswich between 1905 and 1910.  He was educated at Ipswich School and later at Clayesmore School where his interest in art was encouraged by his art teacher.  When he left school in 1918, he spent several years  working as an office clerk in London and Warminster and started taking evening classes at the Westminster School of Art ...
