MICHAEL AYRTON (1921-1975)
Michael Ayrton was an English artist, writer, renowned sculptor, printmaker, designer, critic, broadcaster and novelist. He work reveals a personal obsession with flight, myths, identity, mirrors and mazes, demonstrated in his sculptures, poems and stories. He also worked as a designer for the stage and was a costume designer, working with the artist, John Minton on the 1942 John Gielgud production of Macbeth at the age of nineteen.
